Singapore resorts are now being grouped by the government to enhanced its competitiveness in ASEAN’s tourism industry.

The integration of Mixed development projects like hotels, restaurants, convention centres, theme parks, shopping centres and casino’s caused a great deal of controversy among the Singaporeans.

Lee Hsien Long, Singapore’s PM defended the cabinet’s decision to develop 2 integrated resorts in Marina Bay and Sentosa. because it is their aim to put the Integrated Resorts in the tourism map to boast the country’s tourism industry. Competition from neighboring countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and Hong Kong is one of the reasons why the government rehabilitated its tourist destinations. The government’s other reason for the renovation was to create some 35,000 jobs out of the project directly and indirectly.

The debate among Singaporeans on the government’s plan to build the Integrated Resorts were faced with stiff reactions, particularly from religious groups and social workers who voiced their disapproval at the negative impact of gambling within Singapore’s social structure .

Despite this, the Government is adamant to push through with the project and promised that a proper and strict safeguard to minimize the social impact of gambling by imposing very expensive entrance fees and making sure that casinos would not extend credit to the locals.
